Life Update
Note: This article was written for a previous version of the site and is likely out-of-date.
Since my last article I've started my first proper job (ever). I've just completed my first weeks work as a web developer for a magazine/comic publishing firm in London. I'm not sure how much detail I should give but let's just say that some of the stuff this company is involved with is geek heaven.
So far the biggest challenge has been learning the technologies whilst having to work hard to meet a major deadline that's just a week from now. It's tough balancing the benefits of learning and using new technologies versus using what's already there, especially when there's so little time. But it's a fun challenge, the working environment is great and the projects are genuinely interesting. It seems like I'm going to enjoy this job a lot.
The only real problem right now is that I'm still homeless. It's unbelievable how much competition there is for every houseshare advert in London, hundreds go up every day and each of them gets a few dozen responses. Trying to convince people that you're the kind of person they want to live with is harder than any job interview, especially when you literally only have a few minutes to get to know them.
Other than that, I've had a few web-related ideas I wish to explore and hopefully I'll be able to say more once I have my proper computer back.
